Welcome to the Pensions Reform Group

"The Universal Protected Pension we put forward is the only workable scheme that guarantees to break the link between retirement and poverty" - Chair of the Pensions Reform Group, Rt. Hon. Frank Field MP.

The Pensions Reform Group was established in 1999 with membership drawn from politics, industry, academia, voluntary bodies, and other stakeholder groups. Our joint endeavour is to begin a serious and detailed debate on banishing pensioner poverty from our shores.

Governor's proposal to establish an independent pensions watchdog welcomed

In the annual Adam Smith lecture last night, Mervyn King, the Governor of the Bank of England, called for an independent body like the MPC, to oversee pensions policy. Frank Field MP, the Chairman of the Pensions Reform Group, whole heartedly welcomes Mervyn King’s proposal.

“The Pensions Reform Group, in the package of reforms submitted to the government to initiate an investment led pension reform, advocated a strategic role for the Bank of England. All opinion polls show that the body most trusted by the public is the Bank of England. PRG proposed the governors of the new scheme should be housed at the Bank of England with the governor acting as chairman.”

“Extending the role of this committee which it was proposed should oversee the pension fund’s investments, also to act as a watchdog on pension policy development, is to be welcomed unreservedly. Given the chaos into which the government’s pensions strategy has collapsed, the proposal by the governor could act as a first building block for a sustainable and effective long term strategy.”
